I am alive!

So, I’m a bad blogger.

But not really. I’m pretty decent I like to think.

Back to your regular programming.
Previously on Laney’s life:
I was away all weekend in Virginia beach to celebrate Ishaq’s birthday. It was amazing.
I also was hired as an NA II, got in a fight with my managers at my current job, quit said job, and put in my two weeks notice, culminating in beginning orientation at my new job today.

So, that’s what you missed.

I’ll be back with updates, how-to’s, and general posts starting tomorrow. And Change of Shift is coming on March 18th aka Thursday.

Did you miss me? I missed you too.

Love,
Laney

Spring Break

I’m on spring break and it feels so good!!

Well, I’m at work. And I’ll be here tomorrow too.

BUT the husband and I are going away this weekend for his birthday…and I am super excited. Headed to the beach with an oceanfront room. The beach is his favorite place, so although its too cold to get in the water, we’ll be able to sit back and here the waves from our OCEANFRONT room. Got a little excited there, sorry. This has been in the making since late last year because there is no time for vacation [or sleep for that matter] when you’re in nursing school.

SO! When is your guys’ spring break and what plans do you have?

Love,

Laney

Mid-Semester Slump

I feel it coming on. The mid-semester slump. My house is messy, my books less organized, my mind is foggy. It’s awful. Spring break is [thankfully] only a week and a half away.

And then, I can pull my life together I hope.

How about you guys? When you’re about halfway in, does your energy dip a little?

Any cures? Fixes?

Blahhhh.

Hope you’re having a happy Tuesday. Clinicals tomorrow = fun stories to come.

Love,

Laney

PS- Looking back at old posts, I found this- which leads me to conclude that dealing with medicine makes for a tired nursing student/HUC/NA. Le sigh.

Asheville!

Wednesday the 11th, I went up to Asheville with my other bestfriend Dash. We were going to see the boy she may start dating soon and his art show he was having. I must say, the boyo is VERY talented. His paintings looked exactly like the photographs they were inspired from.
The drive up was awesome. She’s one of the few people I can stay in close proximity with for long periods of time without getting bothered by. I think it’s cause we’re like the same person. No matter!
The mountain air was quite refreshing. I really love Asheville. We passed by Riverside cemetary which was really beautiful (in a morbid way, I suppose). It was very old-school with large headstones. It was too cold and windy to stay for more than 2 minutes though.
The art show was small but nice. All three artists are incredibly gifted. One had a South African accent which reminded me of Ishaq, of course.
We went back to her friend’s house where we were staying for the night. They were really nice! I also learned how to spin poi. Kind of. This starter set are the balls that light up red and you spin them around on a bungee-type string. The real kind involves fire that you spin. Pishaw, like I’ll ever do that. Unlikely.
I also hit myself in the face and in the back of the head. The consequences of learning poi. But it looks really cool when you get it right.
After her boyo came over, we had a bonfire and made smores. They were amazing! It was like being 5 again (according to Dash).
The trip kind of ended abruptly because we got into our first argument ever. But, I’m sure that was bound to happen at some point since we’re going on 4 years of bestfriendship.

Overall, it was a seriously good trip though!

Out With My Mom

Alright, I’m backtracking because it’s spring break, so the next couple of posts will be about my last week.
I worked yesterday, today, and will be back tomorrow and tuesday. A four-day week- the worst. That means I’ll be putting in 50 hours of work over these four days. But it works out cause I get several days off coming up!

So Tuesday the 10th was a date with my mom!! It was fantastic. I’ve missed being able to do stuff like this with her on a regular basis. But it’s fine.

It started off with her making me believe we were running errands. We tried to get a passport photo for her. It took forever. The dude at the store was rude and didn’t really do anything. No matter!

She took me to get a pedicure at this new nail place right next to my house. It was the best pedicure I’ve ever had. For just $35, we got sea salt scrubs, nail color change, lotion, massage, and a bunch of other stuff. Quality, for sure.
We then went to Shiki Sushi for lunch which was absolutely delicious.
After that, we went back to her house and watched Rachel Getting Married which was a really great movie. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It had a more indie feel which was slighly surprising. I thought itwas more mainstream since it had been nominated for a several awards.

We decided to make this a monthly thing which I am really looking forward to.

So, here’s my to-do list for spring break:
-sleep
-clean up the house
-get the new dishwasher installed (it comes on Wed!!!! and is very needed!!!)
-hang up artwork
-sleep
-work on older adult project
-sleep
-study for elimination test (3 days after i get back to school)
-go visit jan overnight
-sleep
-read for leisure
-try out some new recipes (baking!)

I’m very excited. I just need to get through this work bit, seriously.

Goodbye nutrition, hello spring break!

habiba came to visit.

habiba came to visit.

Nutrition blows. Really, it does. So does the nutrition test.
I mean, it’s really the hardest test we’ve had so far. Proteins, lipids, vitamins ADEK and B 1,2,3,6,9,12 and C. Bah. It was just a horrid, awful, dreadful section. Even the senior semesters sympathize because they know just how difficult this test is. But, nevermind that now. Nutrition is done with thank goodness.
I scraped by with another 83%. Luckily, it is now spring break and I can catch up on my sleep, housework, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
I got to have lunch with my mom yesterday though which was really nice. She got to register for her NCLEX this weekend. So jealous.
But I’m really proud of her!

I saw my college roommate/bestfriend tonight. She came over to hang out with Ishaq and I and we had our traditional pasta dinner and watched a movie. Stepbrothers was actually a kind of weird movie. But whatever, good company :)
They also played on the computer and ipod touches while I folded laundry. And she has this weird thing about hating animals so it was slightly amusing to watch her run away when we brought the cats near her.
I’m at work now and am fighting sleep. Bah.

Sorry I haven’t got more to write about today. Seriously.
